Sandy

Sandy is a beautiful yellow lab, that was found in the middle of interstate 696 in Warren. She was literally chased off the highway by a truck. She was chased to a Bird Rescue, not far from the highway. The Bird Rescue called us to come help the dog. We never say no to dogs that need our help. We went and picked up the dog, we named her Sandy. We immediately took her to the vet, as we feared the worse. We had her x-rayed, had them take blood tests, and give her a thorough examination. She had puncture marks on her in a couple different places on her body, she had a skin condition, and she needed some weight. We took her to her new foster home, and began her treatments to heal her body and we could only hope that we could heal her soul, as well. Sandy had an allergic re action to fleas, so we had to bathe her in medicated shampoos, and give her medication daily. After a few short weeks, we felt that Sandy had gained enough weight to be spayed, but lo' and behold, Sandy was pregnant. She really did not need this new complication, but we embraced her condition, we treated her like she was Gold, we prepared for the babies that would be coming, we took her to a new foster home that would care for her and her newborn pups, But Sandy had another hurdle to climb, she hemmoraged and she ended up losing the pups and almost lost her own life. We took her to the vet and hoped for the best outcome. Snady survived, but sadly her pups did not. So we had her spayed then brought her home to allow her to heal yet again. Sandy has gone thru alot, and after a few weeks we had to find her the absolute best family to love her forever, and guess what??? We found the best family ever. Sandy walked into their home and she knew this was HER new home, she made herself comfortable, and we knew she approved of our choice. She deserves all the happiness in the world, she has EARNED the right. Sandy we will miss you, but we know you are now Happy!!!!!

Jonsey

Jonesy was and is our special Mill dog survivor. He was with us for 6 months while we rehabilitated him. He came to us as a very timid dog, who had no idea how much fun it was to be a dog. We took it day by day, we had to repeat almost everything everyday so that it became a routine with him. Everything was brand new to him. He was not use to walking on soft floors, or any type of floor. He was not use to people wanting to touch him, after living 4 long years in a puppy mill, he was only used to rough treatment. He did not know what grass was, he never had a collar on his neck. He did not know what treats were. He never heard a knock at the door. He gradually got use to it all, and he started to relax, and enjoy what we had to offer him. HE learned to like to go outside and roll in the soft grass, he learned that grass was also good to eat sometimes. He learned what treats were, and what to do when he hears a can snap open. He watched the other dogs and began to mimic their actions. He began to TRUST us, and show affection. He started to act like the others, and he really liked it. Jonesy started to live like a dog should live, with lots of love & tenderness. SO then we thought he needs to go a step further and we began to slowly take him out into the world. We would take him to a Meet & Greet once per month, to see how he would react to others, and a new environment. His very first one, he was very nervous and it showed. So we left him home for a few weeks and then tried it again, this time, he responded better, he was more inquisitive, really watched his surroundings, but still shy, so we let him be for a few more weeks, then brought him out for another event. He seemed to do better at each one he would attend. So finally we took him to them all. It was at one of these events that he met his new family. They had come to meet Jonesy, they loved him upon meeting him, and Jonesy had liked them, it seemed like the perfect match. They came back to other event, to see him again, and he remembered them and was glad to see them. After all te paperwork and home visit was completed, Jonesy went to live with them on a trial basis, he did exceptionally well. We knew it was time for him to find his own way in the world witha loving family, that would guide him the rest of his way. Jonesy now resides in RIchmond, with his new canine companion Lucke, and his human family, Susan and Danny. We went back for a two week check up, and Jonesy is making waves, he is progressing slowly but to progress at all is truly an accomplishment. We will be a regular at his new home, but we feel that this was a HUGE succes story and we wanted to share his good fortune with all of our supporters. This is one Puppy Mill Survivor that will want for nothing for the rest of his life. We thank his new family for wanting to help him go further in his long journey, and all the love and caring they are willing to share with him. Please remember that to adopt a dog, and save a life. Also please help us put an end to puppy mills, no dog should have to live as our little Jonesy has had to live.

Charlie

Charlie came to us from a Shelter in southern Ohio. He was saved from death, and placed in a foster home, but when he was not adopted out within a 6 month period, the foster family sent him back to the shelter and to being put on the urgent list. A caring shelter volunteer, pulled him, and boarded him, until a rescue could be found to help him. We came to his rescue, we could not believe that no one wanted to help this young man find his forever home. We placed him in a home in just a few short weeks of getting him up to Michigan. Charlie now resides in Algonac, with his new family. He was a dog that we NEVER thought would get a home, as he was NOT obedienced trained, had no concept of what the words no, and stop meant. And he loved to jump from high places. He has been in his new home for the past 4 months, and though his adoptive family has gone thru his bad habits, they love him unconditionally, and would NEVER dream of giving him back. Charlie is another sucess story that needed to be told. Please be responsible, and spay or neuter Your Pets.

Sarah

Sarah was given up because her family got divorced. She was given to a younger family member, who soon lost interest in Sarah, after a period of time, the family contacted us, and asked if we could take her in and find her a new owner. Sarah was a lovely lady, we had her groomed, as she had lots of mats. We took her in got her up to date with the vet, and was told that she was overweight. this sometimes happens when folks over compensate for the pet. Sarah was placed in a foster home, and settled right down, she loved the attention she received, liked her new pals. Sarah was adopted by a family that wanted a companion for their already mature pet. Sarh is now settled in her new home, and she enjoys the attention that she gets on a daily basis, she has two girls to keep her on the go. Just because a dog is older, does not mean that they can not still make a great pet and companion. Sarah has manyyears to give and receive.

Parker

Parker is one of our Mature Pet adoptions. Parker was left in a Northern Michigan Shelter. He is an older dog, so his chances of being adopted were slim to none. An 8 year old Dog with arthritis and depressed was not exactly appealing to anyone. Parker 's previous owner had passed away, and the only family he had ever known had been split up, and he found himself alone. And like all older dogs, he got depressed and refused to eat. he was on his last days, until we found him, and we just could not leave him there, as we all knew what would become of him. Parker was placed in a loving foster home, it took him a few days to realise that he was once again in a loving home, and that someone actually cared about HIM. We took Parker to a meet & Greet and the very first time, he met his new would be owner. He really liked the family. He was adopted soon after, he went to the vet, put on meds for his aches and pains, he now has a jaunt in his step, he really likes his home, and he acts as though he has lived there all his life. He goes for walks daily, he goes for rides with the family, and he is the Highlight of their day. We would like for others to remember the mature pets that have been dumped in the shelters, they have lots to offer without all the nonsense. And they make the best companions!!!!
